Archives for October 2017

Left dock in a dead calm but by time I got to my spot the wind came up SW and gusty against the tide, not the best conditions . Picked up a nice fat 30″er on start of incoming than nothing . worked the area for an hour and seeing nothing I left and headed to spot #2 where I found a 26″er than again nothing .After working that area hard moved again and found a 24″er and once again nothing .Bait was scarce . I think the fish know there is going to be some lousy weather and went for cover.
For entertainment I got one short fluke and a few sea bass why trying for a Spot or 2
At my age the wind is my enemy and it was tough to stay in the right spots with the wind against the tide .
Tomorrow looks real ugly and Monday not much better,so if you want a bass you better get out tonite

Another beautiful morning other than a little cool before the sun came up. I headed north looking for bass and found a large school of Dolphins . i counted 12 with 6 of them young ones . So didn’t stay there long as I never catch anything around dolphins and went looking for fluke .Picked up 7 fluke ,Tom called and said he had bass so hammer down I headed back to where the dolphins were .
Tom had Spot and I had eels and generally you don’t get bass on anything but Spot when Spot are being used so I stayed away from him. I did get one 29″er on an eel but than nothing so I moved again and found 3 more bass of 25-27″ before calling it a morning . Tom may have ended up with 6 or 7 .
Bass clearly were on the move chasing schools of mullet

After a hard rain and wind yesterday it was a pretty nice morning ,little cool but light wind. Went looking for bass and looked and looked never had a touch on my Spot. Went looking for fluke and it appears they have left and found none .. all I could find was short sea bass and big sea robins.. Actually one sea robin was the largest I have ever seen and went just short of 5 lbs . I thought I was into a bass as this robin was one angry robin
No bait anywhere . water temps still high at 67-68 degrees which is unbelievable

Fishing Report 10/23

Picture perfect morning with 2 hours of incoming but no bass until tide started out when I got 2 -30″er’s in a 20 minute span and than nothing again. Bass don’t have any good food as they are spitting up small calico crabs which probably explains why they are not holding in normal spots for very long. Water temp 65 would like to see it drop a little more… Looks like tomorrow is a wash out

Another beautiful morning and I went looking for Bass under the moon light this morning BUT after 2 hours of looking and never seeing a mark I switched to fluke. Fluke were hungry ,nothing big but they kept my line tight and I ended up with 19 before calling it a day,, Bass don’t want to show up and fluke don’t want to leave. This has been a Strange year .Water temp 65

Some days the fish win,Beautiful morning as I pulled out of dock with Bob on board and went looking for bass. 2 hours of searching I only had one small bass that tried to choke on an eel and drop off at the boat. Switched to fluke as tide started out and it was flat out slow compared to previous days .We ended up with 6 shorts before calling it a day. Could be the only bite is on bottom of the tide and that would have been too late for me to hang around
Some days the fish win

Fishing Report 10/18

A beautiful morning and I went looking for bass but it was a circus this morning as I could not do anything right and to make my day I caught my line in my prop. Did get one small bass to the boat but it was choking on my Spot and dropped off at the boat. Switched to fluke and the fluke were hungry. I ended up with 18 and 2 over 18″ . Maybe tomorrow I will do better and not do some of the dumb things I did this morning looking for bass

I rarely catch anything decent on the first day of a NW wind and this morning it was a stiff NW that came up late yesterday. Search for bass with a healthy Spot and never had a touch . Tried for some fluke and never had a touch.went looking for Spot and all I found was small Sea bass
After get beat up by the wind I called it a morning
Maybe tomorrow ,water temp 65

Beautiful morning when I pulled out of dock with John on board and we went looking for Bass and found 3 28 1/2/ ,26 and a 23 .Tide almost out and went looking for Fluke and found 13 including a 19″ and 20″er
Tide turned in and bite shut down so headed home when wind picked up
Bass are arriving Boys and Girls
1 bass on eel (largest) other 2 on Spots
Tomorrow looks a little ugly but balance of the week looks Great

I went out this morning with friend John Gasper looking for bass and we found one 27″er but that was it. Switched to fluke on bottom of the tide and picked up 11 but nothing over 17 1/2 Went looking for Spot and all we could find was Sea bass and after catching over 30 called it a morning and disappointed no spot
Will try again in morning for Bass
