FISHING REPORT 5/31

Today was a Fluke tourney so target was fluke. Cool morning with stiffer wind than I like from NW which meant fast drifts south of inlet so I headed north found shorts . Near top of tide headed back south to the fleet. Didn’t see a lot of bent rods so worked the edge and found shorts .Tide starts out and wind shifts to off the ocean NE and harder. Decided to head to south end of my creek where I found more shorts…Now I’m not real happy and wind is harder probably 25 and gusty.. I’m getting too old to fight the wind so headed home. Almost every fluke caught was muddy indicating they don’t like the cold water on the bottom
I can’t remember when the last time I didn’t have a fish to weigh in so obviously I’m not very happy with my results
Some days the fish win
Total caught and tagged 22
Not sure if I’m fishing tomorrow as I may need a day off but I never know until 4am

FISHING REPORT 5/28

A pretty nice morning when I pulled out of dock at sunrise but forecasted back door cold front was in the northern skies. Went looking for Weakfish and found Bluefish. Switch to fluke and bite was slow but managed 3. Cold front dropped in and the light westerly winds turn to strong NE and air temp dropped 8 degrees in a couple of minutes.. Barometer also dropping rapidily… Took a ride on top of tide looking for bass but given the wind that was a dumb move so headed home with wind gusting over 25
Tomorrow doesn’t look promising. in addition to the wind the water temp dropped to 58
some days you get the fish and some days the fish WIN

FISHING REPORT 5/27

Left dock this morning looking for Bass on last 2 hours of incoming but could only find Blues. Switch to Fluke and found shorts and Blues…Decided to burn some gas on start of outgoing and try for bass again and trolled up a 21″ Fluke and 2 Bass . Went to my honey hole and caught 2014’s first bass on a Popper . Back to fluke and found one more legal Fluke at 19″
Water on the bottom is 5-7 degrees colder than surface water .
Fluke are beginning to move around . I suspect the bottom of the tide may provide the best bite for larger fluke given how cold the water on bottom is
Tomorrow could be challenging as cold front on it’s way which will probably bring storms

FISHING REPORT 5/26

Left dock this morning at sunrise with #2 son on board again and with only a 2 hour plan. We started looking for bass and found ONE along with a mess of bluefish . We had the top of the tide. We went back to where we had weakfish but only Bluefish there so switched to fluke on start of outgoing.SW wind pushing tideand drift was fast but we managed to get 3 fluke and one 19″er before calling it a morning and back at dock at 8:30
Tomorrow the crowd will be gone . Depending on wind my due some recon . water temp 62

FISHING REPORT 5/25

BEAUTIFUL MORNING . #2 son on board.Plan was to look for bass and found ONE, decided to look around for weakfish and found TWO 22″ AND 24″ . Next we got into some Bluefish and needed a Fluke for a GRAND SLAM ,.Found a 24″ fluke and 5 shorts FOR FIRST GRAND SLAM IN 3 YEARS.
Not too bad of a morning sometimes a plan comes together nicely
All but fluke caught trolling white bucktails with 6″ twister tails.. Fluke on bucktails with mackeral strips drifting
Water temp 62 but considerably colder on bottom

FISHING REPORT 5/24

Lelf dock around 5am with cloudy skies and more wind than I would have liked searching for bass and found 3 up to 27″. switched to flounder and found 8 with largest 23″. Tough wind to drift in and probably missed best part of tide looking for bass….Wasn’t nearly as crowded as yesterday
water temp 62 on top of the tide but considerbly colder on bottom

FISHING REPORT 5/23

Opening day for Flounder season and I expected it to be a ZOO and I wasn’t disappointed ,left dock at 4:45 ,made one stop with nothing and headed to the zoo. About 15 boats when I got there and within an hour there were 100…Hung in there for as long as my disposition would take it but only found 8 short fluke…. Had to get away from the boats and started looking in other areas and found 3 more shorts… Decided to try for bass in an area with less boats and ended up with a doubleheader Bass and Bluefish and neiher fish wanted to go same way but got them in and tagged them…. I didn’t want to fight the crowds so called it a morning….Tomorrow will be worse so I’m looking forward to Tuesday … I will try tommorrow because it is a good tide at least until I get fed up with idiots. The good fishermen are not the problem it is the idiots that only know how to go fast and leave big wakes
Fluke have not spread out much yet but with water temp 63 and slowly climbing I suspect them to spread out and they will be found consistently in other areas
Happy Memprial Day
