FISHING REPORT 7/31

July is now gone, interesting month for sure, first 2 weeks bass bite was like I have never seen 60 years of chasing striiped bass. Second half of the month was as bad as the first half was good. Now the summer duldrums will begin but given it has been a strange year maybe this won’t be a normal August
I left dock before the seagulls woke up and went looking for bass. I made 3 passes along my normal hot spot with nothing and went looking. Dick was a little later getting out and made the same pass and damn if he didn’t get one . Following that neither of us could find a bass.. I switched to Fluke on last of the tide but could only find shorts , 11 Shorts ,once tide quit I came home and called it a day.

FISHING REPORT 7/30

Once again I fought the falling tide when leaving dock around 5am.Tide was half out. Beautiful morning other than the fish biting. 3 of us left about same time and headed in 3 different directions but after 3 hours none of us had anything decent, few short Fluke. I slso managed to get into a Butterfly Ray which was entertaining but no bass
Tomorrow things “may??” improve, High tide at 3:30am with an early start may get lucky
In prep for an early start I went back to dock his afternoon and got the boat organized for a dark start in morning

FISHING REPORT 7/29

I took the wekend off to recharge my batteries .Went out this morning looking for bass on last of the tide and wasn’t all that optimistic and I wasn’t disappointed as I could not find a bass
Very bottom of tide switched to Fluke but once again the fluke were short, picked up a dozen but nothing over 17″. Couple of Croakers in the mix
I’m not all that optimistic about next 2 days as tides are not very good in morning which is my time to fish, once sun gets up I’m not all that interested in fishing . I would guess there is a fluke bite on top of the tide .
Will give it a try again in morning, have to keep my liungs full of salt air

FISHING REPORT 7/26

Picture perfect morning and much cooler but bass were not cooperating. I’m convinced the school we had begiining of the month moved on with the full moon. I’m sure there are some residents around but tides in middle of the day aren’t the best for catching baSS
Switched to Fluke and had a steady pick of undersize Fluke,in addition there is a good population of Croakers
I’m not sure what I will do next couple of days as instead of burning gas I may play golf and wait for tides to improve

FISHING REPORT 7/24

Left dock this morning determined to find some bass on surface poppers. After over 250 cast still no bass, headed for shallow water on top of tide and another 200 cast but no signs. Decided to make one more more to a spot that hasn’t been producing and damn if there isn’t a 27″ bass there interested in my popper. 500 plus cast and one bass no very productive
Tried drifting a well trained Spot but nothing touched it
Make a short stop for fluke and caught a few but all undersize
Got boarded by Coast Guard ,nice group of guys more interested in talking fishing but checked me out .gave me my report and off they went to next boat
Also saw a beautiful Bald Eagle, thought it was an Osprey until I got close ans saw how big it was ,wing span had to be 8ft beautiful site to see

FISHING REPORT 7/23

Good news today was no fog,bad news was no bass, Drifted a well trained Spot for an hour on incoming nothing.Decided to go to a popper and work the shallow bays on this full moon tide but still no bass.
Switched to fluke and found them hungry but not very big and ended up tagging a dozen and called it a day
Strong SW wind which looks like it will blow all day into night may produced a serious drop in water temp so I will be back at it in morning looking for bass
Watched one idiot on dead high tide run his boat right up on the bank about 15 ft. I was going to stop and see if I could help but given how stupid this guy was I said the hell with it . Full speed onto dry land can’t get any more stupid than that

FISHING REPORT 7/22

Took yesterday off ,Today I left dock in a Very Dense Fog and went around in circles a few times becasue my GPS is not working but finally got to my bass spot .After dragging a well trained Spot for almost an hour with nothing I decided to switch to Fluke. Fog still dense so getting to fluke area was slow but finally got there. Managed to get a dozen fluke but every one was short. Tide out 2 hours and water temp rose to 80 so I called it a day
The summer doldrums are here, lots of small fish to keep you entertained but nothing worhtwhile
Full moon coupled with the warmer water got the bass moving north I think. May change tactics tomorrow and work a popper if the fog isn’t as thick in morning. There has to be some resident bass staying around

FISHING REPORT 7/19-20TH

Left dock yesterday 19th and around 3:45am looking for bass but never found any water temp lower than 73 and that only lasted a few minutes. Did manage to find a few short fluke. but no bass
This morning 20th was a perfect morning, little overcast ,top of tide at sunrise and I found water temps of 66 but still could not find a bass , They may now be on the move with the full moon coming up. Water temps ranged from 66 to 82 when I finally called it a day. Did pick up some more short Fluke but nothing legal
Haven’t decided if I’m fishing tomorrow

FISHING REPORT 7/17-7/18

Yesterday I tried to leave early enough to catch top of the tide but I was late and with water temps pushing 80 ,no bass. Switched to fluke and picked up 2 shorts and back at dock by8am
Today 18th I headed out a little earlier and managed to catch the first of outgoing but nothing touching a Spot ,water quickly got abck up into high 70′s .Switched to a popper and landed a 23″er on a popper but water now pushing 80
Made 2 passes for fluke and picked up one short and back at dock by 8am
Pray for SW winds ,bass are still here but reluctant to feed in the warm water
